This project is inspired by Emerald Barkley. She combines skulls painted in watercolor with continuous line drawings. For this assignment, students did the Diana Chan project as a warm-up and then a sketchbook assignment on drawing a human skull and two types of shells. From there they needed to draw a rough draft showing a human skull, animal skull or shells (symbolizing death) and then overlapping continuous line drawings of something living (plants or animals). The skull needs to have a variety of watercolor colors . The continuous line design is in marker. I recommend bright or neon colors to contrast the ink drawings.
